CLASSIFICATIONS
Please register under classifications according to your team skill level, size and institution to help us better adjudicate for your dancers' best performance. Specific awards for various classifications will be based on number of entries per class, institution, age and team size. There must be at least three in various classifications to deem specific class awards. Classifications will be divided or combined according to number of participants in each classification, division and category.
Class I: Typically the majority of dancers have 1-2 years of training and dance at a beginner to intermediate skill level.

Class II: Typically the majority of dancers have 3-5 years of training and dance at an intermediate to advanced skill level.
Class III: Typically the majority of dancers have 6 or more years of training and dance at an advanced skill level.
 
TEAM DIVISIONS    
Division changes will be accommodated if written notice is submitted to Danceline office at least one week prior to competition.

CATEGORIES

Solo: Open to all participants. Competitors in the solo division should enter appropriate age division.    
Duet: Open to all participants. Duets are comprised of only two dancers who must demonstrate an equal amount of performance time.

Small Ensemble: Made up of 3-5 performers of a dance/drill team. Small Ensembles are eligible for division one ribbons or medals, and all special awards.
Large Ensemble: Made up of 6-11 performers of a dance/drill team. Large Ensembles are eligible for division one ribbons or medals, and all special awards.    
*NEW* Cheer/Dance Ensemble: Designed for Cheer/Dance groups utilizing a dance/hip hop/pom style. Each squad will perform a choreographed routine not to exceed 3 minutes. Organized, formal entrances which involve organized cheers or run-ons with jumps, tumbling, or stunts are not permitted. Squad should enter the performance area in an organized timely fashion. The following props are allowed: flags. banners, megaphones, poms, and signs. Routines must be appropriate for all audiences. Any inappropriate, vulgar or suggestive movements, words, or music will result in a score deduction. No tear-away uniforms or removal of clothing is allowed. No tumbling, basket tosses or stunts over 1 level allowed.

*NEW* Student Choreographed Ensemble: We are pleased to recognize your talented young choreographers! Any small or large ensemble that has been choreographed exclusively by a student may enter this category for a special award. A first, second and third place plaque or trophy will be awarded for scores 90 and above. Please note if an ensemble is entered under Student Choreography they are not elegible for general ensemble awards.    
Officer: Officers may enter all categories. There is no limit of entries per officer group. Officer groups are eligible for all group awards.    
Team: Teams may enter all categories for competition. There is no limit of entries per group. Teams are eligible for all group awards. Teams will be divided into Small Team (2-15 dancers), Medium Team (16-29 dancers), Large Team (30-49 dancers) and Super Team (50+dancers) for classification purposes.    
     
ROUTINE DIVISIONS    
JAZZ LYRICAL
  • Clean jazz style movements
  • Emphasis on traditional or contemporary jazz movements
  • Emphasizes ballet and classical dance technique through balance, extension and control
  • Focus on both technical and emotional interpretations
HIGH KICK PROP
  • Routine made up of formation changes and at least 75% high kicks
  • Emphasis on kick technique, timing, and uniformity
  • Any props may be used except poms
  • Should utilize prop through at least 85% of routine
NOVELTY MILITARY
  • Character dance incorporating identifiable theme
  • Props are permitted, but should not be the routine's focal point
  • Routine based on precision and sharp motions
  • Emphasis on spatial designs and precision
POM MODERN/CONTEMPORARY
  • Routine utilizes poms for at least 85% of dance
  • Contemporary or abstract style
  • Involves freedom of movement with body to create interesting effects
HIP HOP PRODUCTION
  • Contemporary movement to street style music
  • Emphasis should be on body control and rhythm rather than traditional jazz movements
  • Routine exhibiting special effects such as backdrops, large props, and/or a variety of dance styles utilizing innovative staging and placement
  • Actual performance time limit should be at least 3 minutes and no more than 6 minutes
OPEN *NEW* CHEER/DANCE SQUAD
  • Any dance entry not adhering to other categories
  • Examples include but are not limited to the following: Ballet, Tap, Modern, CO-ED, and Folkloric
  • Designed for cheer/dance groups utilizing a dance/hip hop/pom style.
  • The following props are allowed: flags. banners, megaphones, poms, and signs.
